Welcome in the Section of Environmental Physics and Meteorology!

The Section of Environmental Physics and Meteorology constitutes the Section D of the Faculty of Physics of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, established after the section of the former Department of Applied Physics (Official Journal of the Hellenic Republic 173/9-2-07, volume B), founded in 1983.

According to the 1268/82 law that governs the operation of Higher Education Institutions, the Section has the main responsibility to provide education to students by offering many courses of study in Environmental Physics and Meteorology that are taught by the academic staff of the Department.

The teaching assignments of courses are decided every year at the Section Assembly and are further ratified by the top principal organ of the Department, the General Assembly. The Section academic staff coordinates the teaching of courses in the following fields of study:

  • Physics of the Atmosphere
  • Dynamics of the Atmosphere - Atmospheric modeling
  • Climate and climate change
  • Oceanography - ocean modeling
  • Ocean waves
  • Air pollution
  • Energy applications
  • Environmental study technologies

The Section of Environmental Physics and Meteorology participates in the teaching of courses leading to the award of BSc (Bachelor of Science) in Physics as well as to higher degrees of MSc (Master in Science) and of PhD (Doctor of Philosophy) in Environmental Physics and Meteorology based on a full-time programme consisted of lecture courses and project work.
